THE SALIMBENI

Since my novels always have a close connection with history, I thought well that the author should also be framed in this sense. My surname certainly has a Tuscan origin and, apparently, the city of Siena is the one from which the family genealogy originates in 1200. Although, as reported in the document that I am attaching and making available for those wishing to deepen the theme, it seems that we must start from Alemanne origins, or   of dignitaries following King Otto I of Saxony, Holy Roman Emperor, when he descended into Italy in 951 and became King of Italy. Many of his dignitaries found themselves so well in the lands of Tuscany that they thought of staying there instead of returning to cold Saxony and from there the lineage of the Salimbeni of Siena was born. The Salimbeni became, in the Middle Ages, one of the most important families of Tuscany leaving deep traces of their wealth obtained through all kinds of trade. Famous is the feud with the equally powerful Ptolemy family which produced massacres and carnage of all kinds. It is also said that the first version of the novel of Romeo and Juliet should be ascribed to Siena rather than in Verona, but it is useless to investigate since the great Bardo has seen fit to set it in the Venetian city. A branch of the Salimbeni, equally famous and important, was formed in Florence; that of the Bartolini Salimbeni to whom we owe, among other things, the Chronicle that you can download from this website. The Chronicle is very interesting even if it is not very easy to read and is in any case the extract of a much more weighty manuscript of over 400 pages written by a friar of the Discalced Carmelites of great culture. I would also like to mention, in this brief presentation, another very cultured Friar and author of an equally famous Chronicle, namely Fra 'Salimbene de Adam also known as Fra' Salimbene da Parma, his city of origin and who lived in 1200.
